The Context

Fedon Group is an Italian company operating in the eyewear and leather goods sector, even internationally.
Periodically, they had to face costs related to the assistance and maintenance of their physical infrastructure, beyond installation and activation expenses.

The infrastructure hosted both the management systems and the databases, making it a significant expense that the company had set out to reduce in order to allocate resources to other activities.
To review the resource allocation and reduce the IT infrastructure costs, Fedon chose to rely on Miriade to rebuild in the cloud the infrastructure hosting the company’s databases and management softwares.

The Issues

The recurring assistance and maintenance expenses of the physical infrastructure hosting the management systems and the databases represented a significant expense for the company, which had set the goal of reducing the cost of such interventions.

The Solution

While the production environment requires resources to be available 24/7, the development environment is used only at specific times. The adoption of cloud computing enables on-demand access by "renting" the necessary resources only for the duration and capacity that match actual usage, rather than requiring payment for a full license and maintaining the entire test infrastructure continuously.

Furthermore, cloud-based solutions free up resources, allowing them to focus on service development and improving the overall efficiency of the business organization.

The Technology

In order to implement this project several Amazon Web Services tools have been used, which allowed for the creation of an entirely scalable infrastructure.

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) for the creation of scalable virtual servers.
AWS Database Migration Service for transferring data to the cloud in a fast and secure way.
Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) to optimize relational databases in the cloud.
AWS Direct Connect to create the network connections.
AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) to manage suppliers’ access.
Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) for email sending and management system archiving.
